Jerod Mayo Calls Out Patriots For ‘Ridiculous’ Miscues Vs. Colts

FOXBORO, Mass. — The Patriots continue to shoot themselves in the foot.

New England had five first-half penalties against the Indianapolis Colts at Gillette Stadium on Sunday. It was a carryover from its penalty-plagued Week 12 contest against the Miami Dolphins. The Patriots offensive line was responsible for four of those, committing four holding penalties with a fifth declined.

Those infractions didn’t sit well with Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo.

“Yeah, the penalties are ridiculous,” Mayo said on the CBS broadcast at halftime. “We’re hurting ourselves on every single snap just about. We got to clean that up coming out here in the second half.”

New England was whistled for three holding penalties on its final drive of the first half. The drive concluded with a Joey Slye missed chip-shot field goal attempt, which prevented the Patriots from extending their 16-14 lead at the break.
