Man's death in Salem apartment fire 'suspicious'

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- The death of a 38-year-old man inside a burned Salem apartment is considered suspicious with investigators from both police and fire working the case.
The apartment fire near 1100 Chemeketa Street NE was spotted around 2:45 a.m. November 30, police said. Emergency responders found the man's body inside one of the units.
Investigators quickly determined there was "suspicious nature of the victim’s death and origin of the fire" and brought in the Violent Crimes Unit to help. Salem Fire is also looking into the cause of the blaze.
