‘Too much hype, performance zero…’, IPL star buy Vaibhav Suryavanshi fails again in Under-19 Asia Cup 2024, this time against Japan
There was lot of excitement around the ongoing ACC Under-19 Asia Cup 2024 in the United Arab Emirates and it was all around one cricketer – Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The 13-year-old prodigy from Bihar became the youngest-ever cricketer to be bought at an Indian Premier League auction when Rajasthan Royals brought him for Rs 1.1 crore at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
Suryavanshi has impressed the RR team management, including their head coach and former India captain Rahul Dravid, and everyone wanted to catch a glimpse of this prodigious talent at the ongoing U19 Asia Cup. However, Vaibhav has failed to impress in the tournament so far – with scores of 1 and 23.
In a clash against minnows Japan, Vaibhav was dismissed for a run-a-ball 23 with one six and 3 fours. The India U-19 opener holed out off Japanese bowler Kazuma Kato-Stafford. His early dismissal had the internet divided.
While one fan posted, ‘too much hype but performance is zero’, another said, ‘next Prithvi Shaw loading’. Here are some reactions on Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s early dismissal…
