'Not going to end well': Morning Joe predicts Trump headed for bruising over latest pick
MSNBC's Joe Scarborough predicted that Kash Patel's nomination as FBI director would flame out much like Matt Gaetz did after being picked for attorney general.
Donald Trump named the MAGA loyalist to head the nation's top law enforcement agency despite scant experience as a prosecutor and a history of promising political prosecutions of the former president's enemies. The "Morning Joe" host said Republican senators would likely sink his nomination.
"They say no to Matt Gaetz – no, no, no, if somebody threatens the Constitution, if somebody threatens the First Amendment, if somebody threatens the basic Bill of Rights, it does not matter whether you say no to one or two or three of those [nominees]," Scarborough said. "You know, the founders did not write that the Senate had the advise and consent power for maybe one, one and a half dangerous selections. No, you got for that as many as you need."
"By the way, this is not uniformly vote no against everybody that Donald Trump puts up," Scarborough added. "I think everybody agrees that [Sen.] Marco Rubio, although not a Democrat's selection, certainly is within the framework of somebody who could be secretary of state, who knows the issues, who works with people on both sides, who may be an effective secretary of state. Same thing with the treasury director [hedge-fund manager Scott Bessent], same thing with the treasury director – but not this."
The show's producers rolled footage of Patel telling right-wing podcaster Steve Bannon that he would target media figures and others who he claims helped President Joe Biden "rig" the 2020 election, and Scarborough said he was an unacceptable choice to lead the FBI.

"This is not only bad for the men and women who run the FBI," Scarborough said. "This is not only bad for the rule of law, this is not only bad for the First Amendment. This is not only bad for the United States of America, this is bad for Donald Trump, this is bad for the Donald Trump administration.
"This is not going to end well, so I think the best-case scenario for everybody is that Kash Patel and this talk of Kash Patel ends like the Matt Gaetz nomination ended, because this will not go well for anybody, and I believe, I still believe that there will be four Republican senators who will not vote to confirm somebody who says he is going to throw judges in jail, he is going to throw bureaucrats in jail and throw reporters in jail who did not going along with the 'stop the steal' 2020 conspiracy theory."
