A coating on greenhouse glass could extend the growing season for crops in places like the United Kingdom that have less than ideal weather.

Growing crops takes a lot of energy, especially in places that aren’t particularly warm and sunny, like the United Kingdom. Some greenhouses are heated with gas; many use artificial lights that require a lot of power. And produce is also often shipped in from other countries, adding to the emissions associated with your fruits and veggies. But a new coating, sprayed directly onto greenhouse glass, could improve crop yields for farmers in such places—without requiring any more electricity.
