The future of the Champions Trophy remains to be uncertain despite PCB reportedly accepting BCCI’s proposal of a hybrid model for the tournament. Earlier, BCCI refused to let Team India travel to Pakistan in order to participate in the tournament due to security concerns.
Though the PCB remained firm on their stance of hosting every Champions Trophy match in Pakistan, they reportedly ended up accepted BCCI’s hybrid model. This model means that India will be playing all of their matches in Dubai.
Several media reports suggested that the PCB was ready to accept it if the ICC was willing to give a written confirmation that all Pakistan matches in events hosted by India till 2031 will take place in a neutral venue and they are given an increase share in annual revenue. However, according to a report by CricketPakistan, BCCI is ‘hesitant’ in accepting PCB’s solution.
If ICC accepts PCB’s demands then many big matches including Pakistan, will have to be shifted from India to a neutral venue and this reportedly is a big concern for the Indian cricket board.
“We have presented a fair solution. If India does not accept it, they cannot expect us to send our team there in the future. If an ICC event is held in India, their team would also need to play finals or key matches in Dubai, ensuring parity,” a PCB source was quoted in the report.
It is expected that the ICC will soon be releasing the schedule for the Champions Trophy which will end up clearing several important things regarding the tournament which is set to take place next year in February and March.
