Why Patriots Should Have (Even More) Trust In Drake Maye In This Scenario

The New England Patriots clearly have their franchise quarterback of the future in Drake Maye.

They’ve opened up room for him to grow and make plays with his arm and with his legs. With that said, there’s still more to allow for his development.

The Patriots suffered a devastating 25-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 13 after the visitors scored a late touchdown and two-point conversion in the final seconds. Maye and the offense did get the ball to midfield with one second left on the clock.

Instead of opting to let Maye heave one to the end zone, the Patriots sent Joey Slye out to attempt a 68-yard field goal, which would have set an NFL record. Slye’s valiant boot fell short at the base of the goalpost as New England dropped to 3-10.

Should Maye have had the chance to attempt a Hail Mary?

NESN’s Travis Thomas and Keagan Stiefel discussed that question on the latest episode of the “Foxboro Rush” podcast.

Maye otherwise had a decent day for the Patriots, throwing for 238 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the loss at Gillette Stadium.
