Off the Beaten Path: Watervliet Cultural Community Center

WATERVLIET, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Located on First Avenue across the street from City Hall, a symbol of Watervliet’s past is being reimagined for the future. The Watervliet Cultural Community Center will serve as a meeting place for the community.

Meneely Bells are ringing once again in Watervliet, allowing city residents to mix nostalgia with history. According to Mayor Charles Patricelli, the Watervliet Charitable Foundation purchased an electronic Carillon bell system for the Watervliet Cultural Community Center, formally known as the Dutch Reformed Church.

The bell sound system rings on the hour from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The ringing of the bells coincides with another city tradition, the Watervliet Arsenal's bugle rendition of Reveille, Retreat and Mess Call, and Taps.

Located next door, the Watervliet Historical Society and Museum set up a holiday display in the Community Center for the public to enjoy during the month of December.
