Bears TE Marcedes Lewis: Not surprised by Matt Eberflus' firing

Count tight end Marcedes Lewis among the Bears players who weren’t shocked by the firinf of head coach Matt Eberflus.

“To say I'm surprised would be like, I just wouldn't, it wouldn't be honest,” he said Monday on his own “The Big Dog Show” with David Kaplan.

Lewis, who turned 40 in May, has seen a lot of crazy things in the NFL. This season is among them.

“It never ceased to amaze me, right?” he said. “My first 12 years in Jacksonville that gave me all of the experience and adversity that I would ever be a part of … Fast forward to this season, you know we’ve lost six, at least six, games … in different ways. …

“We’ve played in games where we’ve been solid and then literally when it matters most, it’s just like, ‘Whoops.’ There goes a game with three seconds left and a blocked field goal … I just can’t believe it. This is literally a movie. And when I write a book one day it’s going in there for sure.”

That was the Packers’ loss. Two weeks later, Eberflus failed to take a timeout and let the clock expire while the Bears had the ball behind by three.

Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, a guest on Lewis’ show — which will be posted Monday night — said Thursday was difficult for a lot of reasons.

“A lot of emotions,” he said. “Obviously, more than anybody probably can imagine.”
