Islamic Republic holds military drills on Afghanistan-Iran border

State-run media of the Islamic Republic reported that the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces held an “extraordinary” military drills along the Afghanistan border.

According to the news agency, the exercise focused on countering “terrorist cells and their movements outside Iran’s eastern borders.”

The report stated that the operations carried out by the Islamic Republic along the Afghanistan-Iran border were planned in close coordination and collaboration with Iran’s neighbors, including the Taliban government.

The Islamic Republic’s official news agency, IRIB, released a photo report of the military drill, showing military equipment and helicopters in action. The exercise took place near the border wall between Iran and Afghanistan in the Khorasan Razavi province, where the Iranian government has been constructing a “border barrier project” for some time.

Officials from the Islamic Republic also announced that 65 kilometers of the border wall with Afghanistan have already been built, and an additional 300 kilometers will be completed by the end of this year.

This military exercise underscores the growing security concerns along the volatile Afghanistan-Iran border.
