Golden State basketball is on the way! Come join our game thread and chat about tonight’s matchup here.

The Golden State Warriors wrap up the Group Stage of this year’s NBA Cup with Tuesday night’s matchup against the Denver Nuggets. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00PM PT in Denver and can be watched on TNT and NBC Sports Bay Area.

Previously with the Warriors:

Golden State continued their free fall in the standings after losing their fourth consecutive game last Saturday night against the Phoenix Suns, 113-105. Head coach Steve Kerr went with another new starting lineup as Brandin Podziemski got the nod in the backcourt alongside Stephen Curry—who returned after missing one game with knee pain. Despite a rough stretch of games, Podziemski finally found some rhythm in this one, shooting 4-of-8 from the field, 2-of-4 from three, and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line for a total of 12 points.

However, Podziemski’s efficient night wasn’t enough for the Warriors, who went with a 13-player rotation as they searched for answers to slow down the Suns. After the game, Steph Curry hinted at the need to shorten the rotation, saying that it would benefit everyone’s rhythm if playing time was more “predictable” on a nightly basis.

What to watch for tonight:

Tonight’s matchup against Denver will be extra challenging for Golden State as they will be without their defensive anchor, Draymond Green, who is listed as out on the injury report due to left calf tightness.

Green’s absence is a huge blow to a Warriors’ defense preparing to take on Nuggets superstar center, Nikola Jokic. Last year’s league MVP is averaging 29.6 points, 13.2 rebounds, and 10.7 assists per game—ranking within the top four in the NBA for all three categories.

Jokic is a big reason why the Nuggets currently have the sixth best offensive rating in the league and may force Kerr to change his starting lineup once again. Against a talented big man like Jokic, the Warriors might opt for more experience at center with Kevon Looney—who has performed well defensively in recent games.
