Jets QB Aaron Rodgers has advice for the team he owns, the Bears, on Caleb Williams and their future

Bears ownership has all the answers.

No, not the McCaskeys. Self-proclaimed Bears owner Aaron Rodgers.

In his weekly appearance on ‘‘The Pat McAfee Show,’’ Rodgers again used the platform Tuesday to give the Bears and rookie quarterback Caleb Williams some advice in the aftermath of the firing of coach Matt Eberflus.

Not surprisingly, given his history, Rodgers said he thinks the Bears should hire a coach largely based on whether he can ‘‘work with [Williams] and connect with him on a personal level’’ as the future of the franchise.

‘‘Every young quarterback, whether we want to admit it or not, wants to be coached really badly,’’ Rodgers said. ‘‘We don’t have all the answers. We’d love somebody to hold us accountable. . . . That’s what a young quarterback needs.’’

Rodgers hit on a key issue for former Bears offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. Wide receiver Keenan Allen complained that Waldron was ‘‘too nice of a guy’’ and didn’t hold players to a high standard.

Rodgers also said the Bears should emulate the stability of the NFC North-leading Lions. They hired general manager Brad Holmes and coach Dan Campbell in 2021 and rode out early challenges to grow into a championship contender.

‘‘They’ve done it the right way,’’ Rodgers said. ‘‘They stuck by [them], and you’ve seen the shift with that team.

‘‘Any organization would be smart to think about that, especially Chicago. I was their rival for 18 years. I saw a lot of change down there. You’ve got to hire the right people and empower them and let them be. . . . To change a culture takes time.’’

Rodgers might have been aiming that at his own team, the Jets. His team fired its general manager and coach this season and sits 3-9, and Rodgers is having the worst season of his career at 41.
