MLB Rumors: Red Sox ‘Potentially’ Interested In Star Infielder
The Red Sox appear committed to a complete turnaround that could include an infield upgrade.
Juan Soto remains the top prize in free agency, but Boston’s reported signing of Aroldis Chapman showed it’s also looking to fix weaknesses from previous seasons. The Red Sox need a right-handed bat and have been linked to multiple sluggers.
One option could be Nolan Arenado, who MLB Network’s Jon Morosi believes Boston might be “potentially interested” in. The 10-time Gold Glove third baseman still has two years left on his contract, but Morosi noted that the St. Louis Cardinals would be open to a trade.
The Red Sox are linked in the trade market for Garrett Crochet. However, they could seek more deals if they land Soto on a massive contract. It’s unclear how open Boston is to changing Rafael Devers’ primary position, which would need to happen if the club acquired Arenado.
What is clear is that the Red Sox are looking at multiple options to not only find a right-handed bat but also someone who can upgrade the defense.
