Averill Park girls begin the quest for 11th straight title

AVERILL PARK, NY (NEWS10) -- High school basketball season continues to ramp up in the first week of December. That includes the annual Averill Park Girls Basketball Tip-Off Tournament, with the Warriors once again playing the role of host.

The Warriors are one of the great dynasties this area has to offer, winners of 10 straight section titles. This season, they're replacing some big contributors. Taylor Holohan is now at Northeastern after averaging 19 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks per game for Averill Park last year. They also lost starter Tatiana Tune.

The Warriors are used to replacing production, and they feel they have the pieces to do it again. "We're fortunate where four out of the five seniors were a part of the 2022 state championship team," said head coach Sean Organ. "They understand the expectation. Lead by example. They understand the energy and intensity that it takes just to be competitive in the Suburban Council. But that doesn't guarantee us anything for this season. They understand that while they have a little bit of experience, they're going to have to go out and they're going to have to perform."

"It's just people stepping up," said senior Kayleigh Ahern. "I think we've had a couple of people already starting to step up and we're going to keep having people step up throughout the season."
