City of Franklin remains under months-long boil advisory
ST. MARY PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- Since Aug. 19, the city of Franklin has been under a boil water advisory after failing to properly monitor turbidity levels in the water.
Franklin Mayor Eugene Foulcard talked with News 10 about the ongoing issue and how they are working to fix it and not have it happen again.
"Turbidity meters were in need of recalibration. That has all been done. We've been working very closely with the state of Louisiana to get our boil notice lifted," Foulcard said.
The city received a boil notice order from the Louisiana Department of Health for improper turbidity readings. Since the violation, Foulcard insists there have been multiple tests in different areas around the city and that no bacteria has been found in the water. New equipment is coming to the plant to bring it up to speed with the demand for good water.
"New filters, new backwash pumps, transfer pumps, all of the necessary things that we have to do. We are moving forward with that," Foulcard said.
The mayor said even though the plant is outdated, the updates and improvements in the works will be able to fix the issue once and for all.
"I'm very thankful for our legislative delegation, as well as the hard work and employees at our water plant that work on a daily basis to ensure that we do have good drinking water going into the system," he said.
