New Quartier Atwater project to feature over 500 housing units
Work on the Quartier Atwater – Habitats locatifs project, a complete revitalization of the Hickson-Dupuis industrial sector in Verdun, has begun.
The project will be home to over 500 housing units, including studios, family units, studio lofts, and local shops. More than 200 affordable housing units will also be built by the Ville de Montréal. The new district will create a multi-generational living environment, in addition to improving the housing supply.
A collaboration between District Atwater and Brique Recyc will also help make the Quartier Atwater a sustainable project, with one of the largest brick recycling initiatives in Quebec. More than 100,000 clay bricks will be reused and recycled, diverting more than 235,000 kg of waste from landfills.
Habitats locatifs will also include local shops on the first floor. Various social housing units will also be developed on land owned by the City of Montreal. With this development, District Atwater’s goal is to change the face of the industrial sector and create a multi-generational, welcoming and inclusive living environment.
In addition to housing units, District Atwater’s project is focusing on the development of areas reserved for pedestrians and/or cyclists, on-site car-sharing, the integration of a variety of spaces accessible to the public for different social and cultural activities, mural art walls dedicated to local artists, 15,000 sq. ft. of planting including urban agriculture, which will enable biodiversity, and local shops.
District Atwater has been involved in the Verdun community for over 10 years. Specializing in residential development and managed by a couple who live in the neighbourhood, the company develops housing projects that meet the needs of the community and offers accessible living spaces on a human scale.
