Trump is reportedly ready to dump Hegseth after failure to vet him

Pete Hegseth’s nomination to be secretary of defense appears to be in trouble following the disclosure of more damaging information about the candidate.

The New York Times reports that Trump is considering replacing Hegseth with another nominee, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who Trump previously referred to as “Ron DeSanctimonious” when the two ran against each other in the Republican primary.

According to the paper, Trump has been telling insiders that Hegseth should have been more forthcoming about his past before the nomination process. But it is Trump’s duty to vet candidates before nominating them, and in the case of Hegseth, he has been nominated for one of the most important jobs in the country.
