Ange Postecoglou provides sensible update on Mikey Moore at Spurs

Ange Postecoglou has explained why he does not like being constantly asked about Mikey Moore, insisting that he and Tottenham will protect the youngster and give him all the time he needs to recover.

Mikey Moore has missed more than a month at Tottenham

Moore had an impressive start to his Spurs career, demonstrating in his first few appearances for the senior side just why there is so much hype around him.

The 17-year-old’s displays got some Tottenham fans excited that he could push on and even cement himself in the club’s starting eleven.

However, the teenager has not featured since Spurs’ 1-0 loss at Selhurst Park on October 27, having come down with an illness.

There have not been too many concrete updates from the club regarding Moore’s recovery or even a timeline put forward. Postecoglou has made it clear that the youngster will be protected and given all the time he needs to get fully up to speed.

When asked about the Spurs academy graduate, the Australian said (via Alasdair Gold): “Look, I come out here and I want to be as transparent as I can, but this is a 17-year-old boy. I don’t like talking about what they have and what they don’t have.

“It’s nothing serious, but you know, he’s 17. We’re going to take our time, and I don’t like this kind of constant, not from you by the way, but I’ve just heard other bits and pieces of people speculating, Come on. I mean, like, if it’s your 17-year-old son, you don’t want everyone to know what he has or hasn’t got.

“It’s nothing serious. It’s nothing long-term. It’s just that he’s a young lad and he’s only 17, and he’s a big part of this football club, and we will protect him, and we’ll be guided by how he feels, how he recovers from, you know, an illness.

“Like I said, young people will recover at different rates. He’ll be back. He’s still here. he’s He’s part of what we’re doing, and he’ll be back in the next few weeks, but again he’s missed a lot of football. So whether we bring him back to the first team or he needs to play, we’ve got to bear in mind that he’s 17.”

Tottenham are doing the right thing with Moore

Spurs are absolutely doing the right thing by giving privacy to the youngster and taking things slowly with him.

Despite the club’s injury situation, it would not make sense to rush the teenager back until he is 100 per cent physically and mentally ready to be back.

Hopefully, it is not too long before we see the winger out there again as his return will give a much-needed boost to the side.
