Trump's FBI pick Kash Patel targeted in Iranian cyberattack

Kash Patel, President-elect Trump’s nominee to lead the FBI, was among those targeted by an Iranian cyber attack.

It’s unclear whether any information was gained through the attack, but it makes Patel the latest figure in the Trump campaign to be pursued by the nation.

In August the Trump campaign revealed it was the target of a hacking campaign from Iran — something the U.S. adversary has denied.

Patel, who previously served in a number of national security roles under the first Trump administration, has been a vocal Iran critic.

"Kash Patel was a key part of the first Trump administration's efforts against the terrorist Iranian regime and will implement President Trump’s policies to protect America from adversaries as the FBI Director," Alex Pfeiffer, a spokesperson for the Trump transition team, said in a statement.

The FBI declined to comment.

Despite denials from Iran, the FBI has concluded the nation was behind the attack, and has since indicted three individuals associated with what they called a “hack and leak” operation. 

Iran was accused of securing a vetting document prepared on Vice President-elect JD Vance, passing it along to multiple news outlets from a man using the alias Robert.
