Donna Knight inducted to NNU Hall of Fame
Donna Knight has been inducted to Northwest Nazarene University Hall of Fame as both an individual and as part of the 1994-95 women’s basketball team, on which she starred as a junior.
Donna was a member of the NNC women’s basketball team from 1992-96, helping lead the Crusader program to new heights during her four-year career.
The England international was the first player in program history to earn First Team All-American status, Donna was a two-time NAIA All-American honouree with a Second Team honour in 1994-95 and the First Team recognition in 1995-96.
She led the Crusaders to the NAIA DII National Championship game as part of the 1994-95 squad, helping NNC to the national runner-up finish – the greatest season in program history at the time – with Knight was the team’s leading scorer with 14.5 points per game.
“I am just truly grateful to have been inducted into the Northwest Nazarene Hall of Fame, both as an individual and alongside my 94-95 teammates,” Knight told Hoopsfix.
“Where has 30 years gone? One thing I know is that the opportunity to play basketball in the United States on a full basketball scholarship at a Christian university from 1992 – 1996 set me up for life in ways beyond what I could have ever imagined. God is good.”
Across Knight’s four seasons, the team compiled an overall record of 76-37 (.673).
“The wins and losses that we experience on and off the basketball court parallel life experiences,” she continued.
“The game of basketball is a fantastic way to prepare for the game of life. When you reach a certain age in life you finally realise, that it was always about so much more than just basketball.
“I am blessed to have been inducted into the Northwest Nazarene University Hall of Fame. The opportunity to spend time with my coaches and teammates was awesome. Many of us were able to share this experience with our children. My daughter Aliya for example was able to attend the induction, and walk out with me, alongside Dave my NNU Crusader family, back then he was, and today still, is one of my biggest supporters in life, such a special moment.
“My biggest take away from this whole experience was the opportunity I was given to speak to the current student-athletes. It was incredible, and I loved every minute of it.
“All glory to God.”
At the time of her graduation in 1996, Knight was third in program history with 1,316 points, second with 278 free throws made, second with 110 games played, third with a 52.7 field goal percentage, sixth with 140 steals, and seventh with 695 rebounds.
Following her final year, Donna also earned one of Northwest Nazarene’s prestigious end-of-the-year honours, the Hopkins-Humphrey Female Athlete of the Year accolade.
“I’m excited to announce the 2024 Hall of Fame Class and recognise this incredible group of women who have represented our university so well,” said Director of Athletics Paul Rush before the ceremony in which Knight attended and addressed over 300 students.
“The talent of Donna Knight was incredible and the story of her journey here and time at Northwest Nazarene is so motivating for our athletes. We are not only looking forward to having her back on campus and honouring her, but also having her inspire the athletes competing for us today.”
Knight now works independently as a consultant in education & safeguarding, delivering workshops & training, and is also an author; you can find her audio book, “The Boy Who Saw Double” on Google Play.
