HAPPY Valley’s James Norton has joined a Game of Thrones star in epic new period drama King & Conqueror.
Behind-the-scenes photos of the new eight-part historical epic, which will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in 2025, show epic battles and painstaking attention to detail.
James Norton stars in King and Conquerer which is set to air on the BBC[/caption] Emily Beecham stars as Edith in the period drama set to land on the BBC early next year[/caption]King & Conqueror charts the story of Harold of Wessex and William of Normandy, who met at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 nearly 1,000 years ago.
Two dynasties find themselves in a clash for power in 11th Century Britain as King Harold faces a threat to the throne from an ambitious Norman.
The period drama explores the events leading up to the Battle of Hastings and its aftermath.
Grantchester‘s James Norton stars as Harold, Earl of Wessex.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is William, Duke of Normandy, who went down in history as William the Conquerer.
Emily Beecham plays Edith Swan-neck, and Clémence Poésy is Matilda.
The series also stars Eddie Marsan from Gangs of New York as King Edward and Jean-Marc Barr plays his brother, King Henry.
Meanwhile, Truly, Madly Deeply’s Juliet Stevenson is Lady Emma.
Luther Ford, known for playing a young Prince Harry on The Crown, is Tostig, while Mean Machine’s Geoff Bell is Godwin.
Elliott Cowan, who played Mr Darcy in Lost is Sweyn, and Oliver Masucci, better known for playing Adolf Hitler in Look Whose Back is Baldwin also star.
Michael Robert Johnson wrote the series, and Baltasar Kormákur directed the opening episode.
