Three ways to spend less on gifts and reward yourself this Christmas
MANY of us will be splashing out on gifts, nights out, food and decorations over the coming weeks.
Even though you are parting with your cash, there are plenty of ways to make spending pay. Here’s how to be a savvy festive shopper . . .
Find out how to be a savvy festive shopper this Christmas[/caption]LOWEST PRICE: Always make sure you compare costs to get the best value. This is especially important with bigger purchases.
Use a comparison site such as price runner.com or idealo.co.uk. You may also be able to get money codes — check my vouchercodes.co.uk or voucher codes.co.uk.
CASHBACK: Before you buy, check if you can get some cashback from your purchases.
Look on sites like Topcashback or Quidco which reward you if you click through to selected retailers to shop.
You may also be able to earn cashback through your debit or credit card. For example, the Halifax rewards account offers cashback when you shop with selected retailers.
Or you can use the Chase debit card, which you can get through the Chase app. You load it up with money and get one per cent cashback up to £180 a year.
The American Express everyday credit card offers a five per cent return on spending in the first five months of opening, up to a maximum of £125.
Just be sure to clear the balance each month or interest charges will quickly outweigh money earned.
Sign up to app Airtime Rewards and link it to your mobile phone account and any cashback earned goes towards reducing your bill.
LOYALTY PAYS: Most big brand stores offer schemes to collect points and get rewards, which will translate as money off.
Supermarkets including Tesco and Sainsbury’s offer lower prices on hundreds of items to loyalty scheme members.
