Stakeholders and players feted at SGA Gala and Awards Dinner
Singapore, December 5: Stakeholders and players from Singapore’s golf community were honoured at the Singapore Golf Association (SGA) Annual Gala and Awards dinner held at the Grand Salon Ballroom, Sentosa Golf Club on Thursday evening.
In a night of revelry and celebrations where Seah Kian Peng, Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore, attended as the Guest of Honour, key stakeholders who played a pivotal role in shaping the golf ecosystem in Singapore into a robust, vibrant and inclusive one were recognised.
Tanah Merah Country Club, Sentosa Golf Club, Dusit Thani Laguna along with SGA partners Footjoy, Titleist were acknowledged for their international achievements while Lai Mun Onn, President of Keppel Club, was honoured with the distinguished service award for his dedication and significant contributions to the golfing community in Singapore.
The Awards and Gala Dinner was part of the activities lined up during the annual SGA Golf Week which also included the President’s Cup – a golf fundraiser for the SGA.
Tan Chong Huat, President of SGA said: “On behalf of the SGA, I would like to thank our group of stakeholders for their valuable contributions and supporting us in building a vibrant and inclusive golf ecosystem in Singapore. With their continued support, we are confident of reaching even greater heights.”
15-year-old Chen Xingtong, who triumphed at the Singapore Open Amateur Championship in July, was named SGA Female Junior Golfer of the Year while 17-year-old Brayden Lee, who captured the individual boys title at the Asia Junior Team Championship in September received the SGA Male Junior Golfer of the Year.
Hiroshi Tai and Inez Ng were awarded Male and Female Golfer of the Year, respectively, for their remarkable performances on the global stage. Ng achieved a collegiate breakthrough in the U.S. at the Cavalier Regional Preview.
“I would like to thank SGA for the countless number of times they have supported me and been there for me since day one. Without SGA’s support I would not have been the golfer than I am today,” said Ng.
Tai, meanwhile, will become the first Singaporean to tee up at this year’s U.S. Open as well as the Masters Tournament in 2025 after he won the NCAA Division 1 Men’s Individual Championship in May.
“I really appreciate all the support I received from SGA, my parents, sister, friends and family back in Singapore. It’s always an honour to represent Singapore at the various events around the world and I cannot wait to do that more often,” said Tai in a video recording from the US, where he is based.
Shannon Tan was honoured with the Special Achievement Award for becoming Singapore’s first Olympian in golf at the Paris Games in August.
