Police find major new clue in hunt for suspect in UnitedHealthcare CEO's brazen killing
Police are investigating new clues — including a fingerprint — in the manhunt for the suspect in the chilling Wednesday morning assassination of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO, according to reports.
After Brian Thompson was shot and killed outside the Manhattan Hilton Hotel, the suspect fled but left behind crucial evidence, CNN reported. The items include a burner phone and a water bottle he purchased at Starbucks, according to the network.
A fingerprint has been lifted from the items, but police haven’t yet identified the suspect, CNN reported. Sources told the network that investigators are continuing to search for a motive, especially as new questions are being raised about the shell casing and live round found with the words “delay” and “depose" etched on them.

“I think that they may go from being far away to very close,” said John Miller, CNN’s chief law enforcement and intelligence analyst. He added that he thinks “the clues really point to motive."
“I mean we see that with serial killers where you know, in the case of the ‘Son of Sam,’ you know, he left a letter at the scene taunting police in this case, the clues really point to motive. But, he asked, "Are these clues the actual motive? Right? Or is this something where there's another motive and they are trying to disguise this as a work-related killing?"
Regardless, Miller said, police "will have to keep an open mind and not stay on one path."
