One arrested in connection to Logan County homicide

0

LOGAN COUNTY, Okla. (KFOR) - One man was arrested this week in connection with a homicide in Logan County on Thanksgiving Day.

“My friend is out here on the yard passed out,” a woman told the 911 dispatcher. “I think he might be dead. I'm not sure. He's cold and not moving. He's got his face in the dirt."

The woman discovered 36-year-old Michael Smith in her yard.

“We went to my mom's house to do Thanksgiving and we came back,” she said. “He's homeless and we didn't want him out in the cold and stuff so we, you know, let him pitch his tent here but we were letting him come in.”

Investigators did not initially see any signs pointing towards foul play.

However, the following Monday, the medical examiner found a gunshot wound on Smith’s body.

"We're investigating this as a homicide now,” said Undersheriff Troy Dykes with the Logan County Sheriff's Office.

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, witnesses told deputies three people came to the property on East Country Oaks Road and got into an argument with Smith. During the fight, witnesses heard a gunshot and saw two cars leaving the area.

"There's been an argument about getting a bike back,” said Undersheriff Dykes. “Once the individual was injured with a firearm, witnesses saw two other individuals leave the scene with a bike."

Aldon Harmon III was booked into the Logan County Jail on Tuesday. He’s facing a first degree murder charge. No other arrests have been made.

The two other suspects have been identified, but their names haven’t been released yet. It’s not clear if they’ll face any charges.

KFOR talked with a man named Chris Taylor, who said he saw Smith the day before he was killed.

"Him and his girlfriend were at the store…They offered me some chips and queso,” said Taylor. “It's just a pretty, pretty sudden shocker."
