Troy man convicted of felony drug and gun charges
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- 38-year-old Royal Teasley, of Troy, was convicted of several felony drug and gun charges after a jury trial, the Rensselaer County District Attorney's Office announced on Thursday. Teasley was arrested by Rensselaer County Sheriff’s deputies on December 22, 2023.
A drug investigation conducted last year in Troy resulted in a search warrant being executed at Teasley's home on 6th Avenue. During the search, law enforcement seized over one pound of cocaine, over one-eighth of an ounce of meth, a loaded and privately made "ghost gun" pistol, more than $20,000 cash, digital scales, and packaging materials.
"We appreciate our partnership with the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department as we work to keep dealers and dangerous drugs off the streets of Rensselaer County," said District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly.
Assistant District Attorney Spencer Lane prosecuted the case. Teasley was found guilty of the following charges:
- First-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
- Two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
- Second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia
Teasley now faces a maximum of 35 years in state prison. His sentencing is scheduled for January 16, 2025.
