Freezing temperatures possible tonight, high rain chances likely by the weekend

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) - With the recent frontal passage, a cold night is expected ahead! Temperatures will range from the lower 30s across northern Acadiana to the middle 30s for the coast. Areas along and north of I-10 could see a brief window of freezing temperatures by morning. With winds staying elevated, wind chills could be in the upper 20s during the morning hours!

Even under full sunshine, temperatures only rebounding into the mid-50s by tomorrow afternoon. Another chilly night is expected Friday night with readings in the upper 30s Saturday morning.

Rain chances will increase for the weekend and into early next week. A warm front will approach the area on Saturday, leading to the possibility of a few storms. The warm front, along with low pressure in the Gulf, moves northward by Sunday, leading to a heavy rain/storm threat.

This front could linger over the region through Monday before a final cold front clears us out by Tuesday.

Rain totals in the Saturday through Tuesday timeframe could be on the order of 2-4 inches.

Cooler temperatures look to return to the area by Wednesday and Thursday of next week.
