Mikey Madison Apologizes to 'Scream' Fans for Killing [Spoiler] in Fifth Movie

Mikey Madison is on track for an Oscar nomination for her work in Anora, but just a few years ago she was a star of the Scream horror franchise!

The 25-year-old actress is hard at work promoting her critically acclaimed movie and was joined by director Sean Baker at MoMA’s The Contenders screening on Wednesday (December 4) at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

During a recent interview, Mikey talked about appearing in fifth Scream movie and how she didn’t understand the impact of the franchise at the time.

“I have to be honest, when I did the film, it sounds naive, but I wasn’t so aware of the huge fan base that the franchise has, that I’ve now been able to discover,” she told Collider. “Scream and horror fans and people who love horror films are the best people ever, but I really naively went into it.”

Mikey‘s character was the killer in that movie and she killed off David Arquette‘s beloved character Dewey.

“And so I remember being kind of sad because I was like, ‘Oh, such a great character. It’ll be sad to see him go.’ And then I realized afterward the heartbreak that so many people felt. People have come up to me, and they’re like, ‘I hate that this happened. I’m mad at you.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m so sorry, I didn’t write the script!’ I didn’t want to do it,” Mikey added.
