Meier named to Switzerland’s World Junior Selection Camp
Penticton, B.C. – Penticton Vees forward Simon Meier (’05) has been named to Switzerland’s World Junior Selection Camp, the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation announced Thursday.
Meier, 19, was on Switzerland’s roster for the 2024 IIHF World Junior Ice Hockey Championship in Sweden last year, and he registered two goals in five games, helping Switzerland to a Quarterfinal berth.
The Regensberg, Switzerland, product sits seventh in team scoring with 16 points (4G, 12A) in 25 games this season. Meier is coming off a three-point effort in the Vees’ 7-0 win over Powell River last Sunday. Last year, Meier tallied 37 points (11G, 26A) in 45 regular season games. He added nine points (5G, 4A) in 22 playoff games.
The 5’10, 160-pound winger has plenty of international experience on his resume. In addition to playing at last year’s World Junior tournament, Meier has played for Switzerland at the 2023 IIHF Under-18 World Hockey Championship, and the 2022 Under-18 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
Meier will play tomorrow against the Sherwood Park Crusaders, before heading to Switzerland’s selection camp next week in Ottawa, Ontario. The 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship is hosted by Ottawa and runs December 26 – January 5.
