SpaceX Launches GEO Satellite for SiriusXM

SpaceX launched a new satellite for SiriusXM’s satellite radio business on Thursday morning. The Geostationary Orbit (GEO) satellite, SXM-9, will deliver SiriusXM’s audio entertainment and information to millions of consumers.
SpaceX launched the mission on a Falcon 9 rocket, which took off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 11:10 a.m. The satellite was deployed 34 minutes into the mission.
Maxar Space Systems built the satellite, a high-powered digital audio radio satellite based on its 1300-class platform. SiriusXM ordered the satellite in 2021, along with SXM-10.
Maxar confirmed post-launch that the mission was successful.
This was the first new satellite for SiriusXM since 2021, when SXM-8 launched. The satellite radio provider also ordered two additional satellites from Maxar, SXM-11 and -12, in 2022.
