Siena women's basketball to hold tryouts for potential walk-ons next week
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The focus of Siena women's basketball head coach Terry Primm right now is on preparing his team for Saturday's Albany Cup matchup against UAlbany. After that, it's going shift to finding his team some more players.
The Saints have been severely shorthanded in the early part of this season due to injuries. Just this past weekend, they took on UMass with only six players dressed, and yet still managed to pull out a 57-53 win.
Primm said the program will hold a tryout sometime next week. He's seeking potential walk-ons to help fill the void left by so many players out with injuries, and who have a desire to contribute to the team in any way.
"I just want a couple more excited young ladies who can bring some energy to the table," said Primm. "I wanna be realistic about what we're gonna get, but if we could just get one or two more bodies that know how to pour themselves into the team, invest in the team and just bring some energy during the games, I think it'd be enough."
Primm did not specify what day next week the tryout would take place.
He expects at least six players to be dressed for the Albany Cup, but is hopeful to have more available come gameday. Senior forward Anajah Brown, who's missed Siena the last three games, and sophomore guard Alden Yergey, who's yet to appear in a game this season, both participated in Thursday's practice.
