Virat Pink Ball Test moment: Umpires send Virat Kohli back following KL Rahul ‘No-Ball’ wicket incident

0

New Delhi: An unforgettable moment occurred on Day 1 of the day-night Test between India and Australia in Adelaide on Friday. India’s KL Rahul appeared to be dismissed for a duck in the first session, but a no-ball from Australia’s Scott Boland gave him a second chance. Rahul, who opened alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, had already seen his partner dismissed on the very first ball of the match. Then, Rahul seemed to edge Boland’s delivery into the hands of the wicketkeeper, but the delivery was called a no-ball, allowing Rahul to remain at the crease.

However, when the on-field decision initially favored the bowling side, India’s No. 4 batter, Virat Kohli, walked out to replace Rahul. But, the umpires had to send Kohli back as the no-ball from Boland had kept Rahul from being dismissed, allowing him to stay at the crease.

What’s intriguing is that Snicko showed no spike when the ball passed Rahul’s bat, leaving uncertainty over whether the Indian batter intended to review the decision. Later in the same over, Rahul was dropped by Usman Khawaja in the slips, giving him yet another lifeline, much to the frustration of Boland and the Australian team.

Rahul was eventually dismissed for 37 runs off 64 balls, with Mitchell Starc claiming his second wicket of the day.

Earlier, India’s captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first. The team made three changes for the game, bringing in Shubman Gill, Ravichandran Ashwin, and the skipper himself. Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, and Washington Sundar were replaced by the trio for the pink-ball Test.
