Dragons’ Den star Sara Davies shares genius hack to turn IKEA pots into a perfect teacher’s gift – for just 62p
IT’S so difficult to know what to get teachers for Christmas – especially when you’re on a budget.
But Dragons’ Den star Sara Davies has shared her ingenious hack to turn a couple of IKEA jars into an adorable, and thoughtful, gift for mere pence.
Sara took to her TikTok page to post a video explaining the hack, as she started with a pack of Rajtan glass jars from IKEA.
The jars – which are meant to be used on a spice rack – cost just £2.50 for the pack, making them 62p each.
“If you’re anywhere near IKEA, pick some of these up and give this a go, right?” Sara began.
“All you want is some hot chocolate and some little white marshmallows and then some of these jars.”
She then filled one with hot chocolate powder, and another with white mini marshmallows.
Once they were full, she grabbed some acrylic paint markers and drew on a little snowman’s face on the one with the marshmallows inside.
She then used a piece of ribbon to put around the top of the other jar, before stacking the marshmallow jar on the top.
“So that’s gonna be our body and our top,” Sara explained.
Next up, she took some clear cellophane, and cut a large piece, before putting the ‘snowman’ on the top and pulling it up around the sides.
She used a rubber band to secure the top, before using another piece of black ribbon to finish it off.
“You want it to be super cute,” she grinned.
“And you could even make them with the kids.
“The kids could totally do that!”
In the caption of the video, Sara reassured parents that she’s “got them covered”, with the “little hot chocolate snowmen” that are “so bloody cute”.
“Let me know if you have a go at these!” Sara added.
“Great idea!” one person wrote in the comments.
Should you buy a teacher a gift?
IF you are wondering whether or not to buy your child's teacher an end-of-year gift, look no further...
As the summer holidays fast approach, Fabulous Senior Digital Writer and mum-of-two Sarah Bull weighs in on whether you should feel obliged to buy your kids’ teachers a present to mark the end of term.
Sarah said: “It can be pricey trying to keep the kids entertained during six weeks off school.
“But before the end of term, parents all over the country are also trying to budget for gifts for their kids’ teachers too.
“With teachers, teaching assistants, SEN specialists and other beloved staff members to buy for, it can be an expensive business.
“And while lots of schools actively discourage parents from spending their money on end-of-term presents for teachers, I consider it an obligation.
“After all – I know how tough my kids can be at home, and their teachers have to keep them in check for the majority of the day – so don’t they deserve a token of appreciation?
“I also wouldn’t want my children to feel left out when their friends arrive at school armed with pressies for their teachers.
“While some parents go all out with gifts, with alcohol and flowers popular choices, I’ll be doing my best to stay at the £5 mark for each of the four staff members I’ll be buying for.
“And with some fab options in stores like Poundland, Home Bargains and B&M, it should be easy for me to stick to my budget.”
As another added: “Omg these are brilliant!!!”
“What a brilliant idea, got loads of those jars and didn’t know what to do with them!” a third commented.
“White hot chocolate would have been better but it is super cute!” someone else suggested.
As other remarks came from teachers who insisted they’d love receiving the gift.
“I’m a teacher! I love this,” one wrote.
“We don’t expect anything. A homemade gift from a family is always welcome!”
“Teacher here- I don’t even drink hot chocolate but I’d live this because it’s cute,” another said.
While a third commented: “For my daughter’s teacher this year, I bought a plain canvas tote bag and some fabric pens and let her go crazy with it!
“She’s made a lovely, one of a kind present.”
