Duke Women Fall To South Carolina In Columbia
Not a big surprise but lessons to be learned
In the end, #3 South Carolina beat Duke in the women’s ACC/SEC Classic by just 11, 81-70, but it wasn’t really that close. South Carolina at one point had a 25 point lead. Duke led at 2-0 and then 4-2 but that was it. South Carolina was just too big and too good, especially Chloe Kitts, who scored 21 points on 9-14 from the floor - no threes. She also had 11 rebounds and two steals.
South Carolina killed Duke in the paint, 48-34, but the Blue Devils had a big advantage in turnovers, forcing 23 to 13 of their own.
Taina Mair and Delaney Thomas had 14 each for Duke, while Oluchi Okananwa had 12 points and seven rebounds. Jadyn Donovan paced the boardwork with eight.
It was a tough loss for Duke obviously, but the only way you can become the best is to compete with the best. We’re glad Kara Lawson is scheduling games like this. Duke - currently ranked #9 - will fall, but they’ll take good lessons from this game.
