Amorim confirms 'brilliant' United star is back in training but one defender missing
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has provided a fresh injury update ahead of the Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils suffered their first loss under Amorim on Wednesday night. They had a good opening half against Arsenal, but were second best after the interval.
United succumbed to 2-0 league defeat at the Emirates Stadium and Amorim will want his team to respond when they host Forest in tomorrow’s late kick-off at home.
In his pre-match presser, Amorim said that Victor Lindelof has returned to training after his muscle injury, but the Forest game will come too soon for the Sweden international.
However, Jonny Evans remains on the sidelines. He told reporters: “Jonny is still not training, Victor has returned to training but isn’t available for tomorrow, maybe in the next game he will be available.”
Lindelof has played on the right side of the back three for Sweden and will be hoping to secure regular game time under Amorim. He could return against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday.
The central defender, who was described as ‘brilliant‘ by former manager Erik ten Hag, has a contract until June next year. His United future could depend on his performances.
United dropped from ninth to 13th in the league table after the midweek loss in London. They are presently seven points adrift of the guaranteed Champions League places.
The Red Devils need to return to winning ways against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side tomorrow. Anything less could see them drop further behind in the race to make the top four.
United are poised for a double selection boost against Forest. Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo are back from domestic suspensions and should make the starting line-up.
