The Gyanvapi Mosque management committee has petitioned the Supreme Court to uphold the 1991 Places of Worship Act, which protects the status of religious sites as they existed in 1947. They argue that challenges to the law, based on historical grievances, threaten communal harmony and could spark widespread disputes.
