Will Spurs sign a new defender? Ange Postecoglou gives blunt response
Ange Postecoglou gives a straightforward response when asked whether Spurs will add a centre-back to their squad in January.
Tottenham struggling to get a team out onto the pitch
Tottenham’s injury situation was already looking bad heading into the game against Bournemouth and it got even worse on Thursday.
Ben Davies, who has done a commendable job filling in at centre-back over the last few weeks, pulled with a hamstring problem and looks like he will be sidelined for a while.
It is an injury that Spurs can ill afford, given that Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are already on the treatment table.
Ange Postecoglou on whether Spurs will sign a new defender
Davies’ injury means that Spurs will go into the London derby against Chelsea with Radu Dragusin as their only fit centre-back.
Understandably, Postecoglou‘s mind is preoccupied with what he is going to do on Sunday rather than with the club’s plans for January.
When asked if Tottenham will sign a defender in January, the Australian responded (via Football.London): “Mate, it ain’t going to help us against Chelsea on Sunday and that’s all I’m thinking about.”
Who will partner Radu Dragusin at centre-back against Chelsea?
If Romero and Van de Ven do not make it for Sunday’s clash, Postecoglou will have to line up with Archie Gray in central defence once again.
However, it was reported a few days ago that Romero is expected to join his teammates in training this week.
While there is no confirmation on whether the Argentine has trained with the squad yet, there is a possibility that he will be rushed back even if he is not 100 per cent fit.
