9-day streak of rain-free skies ends Friday around Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Portland hasn't seen a drop of rain so far this December, but Friday will mark the last day of our rain-free weather.
Expect a sun and cloud mix around the Portland, Vancouver area on Friday as clouds slowly increase later in the afternoon. Temperatures along the Willamette Valley will warm into the upper 40s to low 50s as winds aloft remain out of the southeast. A light easterly breeze may still hold for areas in east Portland through the afternoon.
The first cold front of the month is expected to arrive throughout the Pacific Northwest early on Saturday bringing in wet conditions to kickoff the weekend. Accumulative valley and coastal rain will continue through Sunday as the mountains see new snow. Nearly an inch to an inch and a quarter of rain is possible for the valley locations by the end of the weekend. This will be a great weekend for cozy indoor activities, especially on Saturday.
Snow elevations will fall later during the weekend to nearly 3,500' as colder temperatures return to the Cascades. Nearly a foot of additional snow is possible for some ski slopes by the start of next week.
The wet weather trend won't last long. Another round of chillier mornings and sunny afternoons returns next week. It isn't until later next week when rain chances start to increase once again.
