Man sentenced after being found with 8oz of cocaine in Hoosick Falls

TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Brooklyn man was sentenced to 10 years in prison and three years of probation after being arrested in Hoosick Falls for allegedly having over eight ounces of cocaine with the intent to sell. Robert Boyd, 38, pleaded guilty on October 11, 2023, to third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Boyd was taken into custody by the Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office after a one-car crash in Hoosick Falls on Route 7. He had posted bail after his arrest and then was arrested in Virginia the day before his original sentencing was scheduled, per the Rensselaer County District Attorney's Office.

Virginia State Police reported finding Boyd with a loaded firearm, narcotics, and about $33,000 cash after a high-speed pursuit. Boyd was extradited to Rensselaer County to face his conviction and got an enhanced sentencing based on his new arrest.
