IND v AUS 2nd Test: Fantastic performance by Mitchell Starc, Marnus Labuschagne and Nathan McSweeney help Australia charge in Day 1

The Australian team got themselves in strong position by the end of Day 1 of the second Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy, being played at Adelaide. The hosts first bowled out the Indian team on a mediocre score of 180 runs, where the six-wicket haul by Mitchell Starc was the highlight fir Australian bowling.

Mitchell had a perfect start to the pink-ball Test as he dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal on the very first ball of the match. This early wicket was the base of their remarkable performance with the ball.

After India lost Jaiswal on the first ball on the match, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill helped India steady their inning. Both of them made an important 69-run partnership. Their partnership however came to an end soon enough as India lost a few wickets in quick succession. KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli all returned to the dugout in the first session.

After India lost wickets at regular intervals and went from 69/2 to 109/6 in no time, Nitish Kumar Reddy took the charge to keep the innings stable and played a crucial knock of 42 runs in 54 balls. This innings showed the class and confidence of young Indian star and prove to be a major boost for the team.

It was, however, not enough in front of Mitchell Starc who looked like he is on a mission. He went on and took a total of six wickets and completely broke the Indian batting line-up.

Everyone was expecting the Indian bowling unit to turn the game, which did came to being after Usman Khawaja got dismissed. However, Marnus Labuschagne and Nathan McSweeney strongly held their ground and created an unbeaten 62-run partnership by the time stumps were called on Day 1.
