Woman stunned to receive Too Good to Go bag stuffed with 106 seafood sticks

A mum who ordered a bag of discounted Aldi products was shocked when she opened the bag to find 106 seafood sticks.

Piper Rodgers chose a box of discounted goods from the ‘Too Good to Go’ app for £3.30, hoping she might get a few bargains for her spare change.

But the Sheffield native was gifted Aldi’s ‘Big Sticks’, worth £51.94, for a bargain.

‘Too Good to Go’ connects customers with restaurants and cafes that have surplus food in a bid to fight food waste.

Customers can get bags of food from companies for a reduced price, and full-time-mum Piper said she uses it often.

She added: ‘I had never had a box from Aldi but I saw people online saying they get really good deals. I did some shopping and when I picked up the box I asked the person at the self-scan checkout about it.

‘They called for someone to bring it out and I saw a man with a giant box. I started getting quite excited as it looked as though it was rammed. The employee kept saying ‘I’m really sorry’ as he was walking over, which I was quite confused about.

‘As he got closer he apologised again and said ‘it’s just our big sticks’. When I realised that it was filled with seafood sticks, I thought it was hilarious. I kept telling him that it was ok and that I liked seafood.’

Piper’s partner isn’t a big fan of seafood and was ‘shocked’ when she brought them home.

Alongside the giant pile of seafood sticks, Piper managed to bag two boxes of eclairs, a bag of salad and a bag of mint from the store on Sheffield Road, Derbyshire.

Piper, who is also seven-months pregnant, says she is on the hunt for recipes for the discounted fish.

The mum-of-one added: ‘I’m pregnant and have been craving seafood dip so I’m excited that I have something to dip into it. The only other person who likes them is my mum so I’ve told her she can come and collect some.

‘They’re currently shoved in the bottom drawer of my freezer. It’s filled the shelf and almost poured over into another. I’ve set a goal of trying to eat them all before the baby comes in February. I posted about the find online and people have suggested noodle recipes and seafood soup with corn, which sounds nice.’

Despite a drawer packed of seafood, Piper claims she would still order a Too Good To Go bag from the supermarket.

She said: ‘I got my money’s worth for £3.30. You never know what you’re going to get so I would order one again.- I’m someone who finds comedy in a lot of things so even if I didn’t like seafood I would have still found it absolutely hilarious.

‘The whole situation has definitely given my friends and family a good laugh.’
