Who Pays for Wedding of Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence's Kids?
Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence are going to be in-laws. No, that’s not the plot of next Thanksgiving’s Netflix Original; the two comedians are about to be related in real life. One of Murphy’s 10 children, son Eric, is wedding Lawrence’s daughter Jasmin. Lawrence and Murphy have been close friends for decades, and appeared together in the 1992 comedy Boomerang. But despite both actors having substantial individual net worths, only one of them is picking up the tab.
On Thursday, Lawrence revealed during an appearance on iHeartRadio's Big Boy's Neighborhood that Murphy has tasked the Bad Boys star with footing the bill for their children’s happy day.
“We know that you got some bread, we know Eddie got some bread,” Big Boy frankly told Lawrence. Who pays for this wedding?”
"Well, Eddie said I gotta pay for it," Martin responded. "He said I gotta pay for it, 'cause he paid for his last daughter's wedding—like the last six weddings—but he said it's my turn now."
How that math works out is unclear, as Jasmin is the first of Lawrence’s three children to be wed. As Big Boy asked Martin, “What that got to do with you?”
“He said it’s my turn now,” Martin told him. “So you can feel it,” Big Boy shot back.
It is something of an unofficial (some may say outdated) tradition that the bride’s family pays for the nuptials. But Martin said, “I don’t mind,” of that centuries-old arrangement.
Jasmin, 24, and Eric, 35, began dating in 2021 and got engaged in November, sharing the romantic moment to social media. Jasmin is Martin’s oldest daughter, whom he shares with ex-wife Patricia Southall. Eddie shares Eric with former partner Paulette McNeery.
