Iran warns rebel advance in Syria poses regional threat

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, during a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, described the advance of rebels in Syria as a serious threat to the region.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Friday, December 6, quoted Araghchi as saying that the lack of support for Syria would turn the country into a breeding ground for terrorism.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi Prime Minister expressed his country’s support for Syria.

In his meeting with the Iraqi Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi also voiced concern about the rebels’ advance in various Syrian cities.

It is worth noting that Iran and Russia are allies of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, cooperating to counter the rebels, including the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group.

Rebels captured the key city of Hama yesterday and have now entered Homs today.
