Family of Delaware County sheriff's deputy struck by truck gives hopeful update
DELAWARE, Ohio (WCMH) -- The family of the Delaware County sheriff's deputy who was injured while responding to a crash on Interstate 71 on Thursday has given an update on his condition.
Deputy Nickolas Golden was struck by a semi-truck whose driver lost control while Golden was attempting to assist a motorist after a crash near the exit ramp of U.S. 36 and State Route 37 on I-71 South. According to his family, Golden suffered severe injuries, but is awake and working on recovery.
"Nick is a fighter, and we know his determination and resilience will play a vital role in his recovery," the family wrote.
Golden's family thanked fellow law enforcement and community members for the outpour of support he has received. They also offered prayers for the man in the crash Golden was responding to help, adding one of Golden's first questions after the fact was to check if the victim, who was trapped in their vehicle after the initial crash, was OK. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
The post came from the Delaware County Sheriff's Office's Facebook account, who said dangers are part of the job and offered Golden continued support through his recovery. The sheriff's office confirmed Golden is still hospitalized and has a long road to recovery, but said he is in good spirits and feeling better as of Friday afternoon.
