SNL Star Kenan Thompson Reveals Which Daughter Is Funnier Than He Is: ‘She’s Not Wrong'
As the longest-standing cast member in Saturday Night Live history, one of the titular characters of the cult-favorite sitcom Kenan & Kel, and a beloved cashier in the iconic Good Burger films, you would think comedian Kenan Thompson would be the funniest member of his household. But when talking to SheKnows at the American Museum of Natural History Annual Gala, the proud dad confessed that one of his daughters had him beat.
“The little one definitely thinks she’s funnier,” Thompson tells SheKnows of his 6-year-old daughter Gianna.
“She’s not wrong,” he says. “No, no, she’s not wrong.”
Funnier than her dad?! Well, now we’re requesting Gianna host an upcoming episode. Or, at the very least, that she be in a future sketch like Mikey Day’s 12-year-old son Abbott.
Thompson also shares 10-year-old daughter Georgia with estranged wife Christina Evangeline and has opened up about her comedic prowess in the past.
“She makes [Evangeline and me] laugh, really,” the Emmy winner told People in 2018 when Georgia was just 4 years old and Gianna wasn’t born. “She’s the funny one. I try to make them laugh but I think they’ve heard enough from me just from watching the show.”
A few years later, in 2022, Thompson told Today that his eldest is “always telling little misdirection jokes.”
“Very witty, very intuitive and that’s her little mischief for the day,” he said.
So is it any wonder that Gianna — who has a comic legend for a father and a “very witty, very intuitive” big sister — is so funny?
Jokes aside, Thompson tells SheKnows he is loving Girl Dad Life. “It’s the best,” he says. “They’re thriving.”
It’s nice, he says, to see Gianna “coming along” and to be able to reflect on what Georgia was like at that same age.
“And then my big girl is doing her thing, you know?” he continues. “She’s a big 10-year-old and just attacking the world. God bless her.”
But while his girls thrive, come along, and attack the world, Thompson might tell you he’s done the exact opposite.
“[When I became a dad] my coolness just got sucked right out of me,” Thompson joked with People in 2020 and reiterated to SheKnows in 2023. “I didn’t know… I didn’t even feel it, but I just immediately started wearing black socks and shorts and just being really corny at stores and over-asking questions about items that are super obvious and in my face.”
These celebrity fathers are all proud to be “girl dads.”
