He needs to drop the constant cliches and he would be so much better. Just say "far post" not "back stick", and stop it with "into the mixer" and "The Scotsman", "The Irishman", just talk normally. It's fine to say what something is actually called!
I hope he doesn't talk like that at home, it will drive his other half crazy, or "round the twist".
