Fury as convicted crook dodges deportation to Nigeria because his wife wouldn’t be able to get IVF

0

A CONVICTED felon dodged deportation after a judge ruled it would be “unduly harsh” as his wife would not be able to access IVF treatment.

Nigerian Olutobi Ogunbawo, 43, was jailed for three years in 2019 after paying a Brit to register as the dad of his unborn child so his partner could stay in the UK.

He is fighting his deportation back to Africa on human rights grounds and — in a move blasted by fertility charities — has successfully extended his stay after a tribunal judge ruled that he and his wife would not be able to access IVF treatment if deported.

Tone Jarvis-Mack, chief exec of the Fertility Foundation Charity, blasted the decision as “staggering”.

He added: “How can this ruling be justified when so many law-abiding couples in the UK are denied the same opportunity?

“It’s staggering that a judge would rule on such a high-profile case when even the most basic Google search reveals the existence of IVF treatment in Nigeria.”

After objections were raised regarding the rulings, the case will be reheard at a different hearing under a new judge.
