Iconic 80s comedy could RETURN as a stage version – but only if star can be lured away from ‘tinkering with his cars’
A STAGE version of Blackadder is on the cards — if star Rowan Atkinson can be lured away from his cars.
Show writer Ben Elton, 65, said: “Rowan keeps threatening to do a tour.
“But it’s difficult to get him to do anything.
“He tinkers around with his cars.”
Rowan, 69, is known for his love of vehicles.
His collection includes a McLaren F1, Aston Martin V8 Zagato and Bentley Mulsanne.
He played Edmund Blackadder in the BBC comedy from 1983 to 1989.
Originally set in the Middle Ages, Blackadder moved through the ages in its four series, ending in World War One.
The first series was written by Rowan Atkinson and Richard Curtis, with Ben Elton brought in to help write the following three series.
Ben said there was no chance of a fifth series.
But he could see Rowan doing a solo theatre performance if royal fans the King and Prince William asked him. “I’d probably get press-ganged into writing it,” he added.
