Woman killed in horror crash after a car swerved off the road and smashed into a house as she walked home
A WOMAN has died after being hit by a car that swerved off the road in a horror crash.
The tragedy unfolded as the pedestrian walked home on Eastern Avenue, in Ilford, east London, at around 4.10pm on Saturday.
Officers responded to calls alongside the London Ambulance Service paramedics, medics from the London Air Ambulance and the London Fire Brigade.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the woman was pronounced dead at around 5pm.
It is understood the victim, whose age has not yet been confirmed, had been Christmas shopping and was walking home when tragedy struck.
Her next of kin have been informed by police and are being supported by specialist officers.
Cops have interviewed the driver of the car, who remained at the scene.
No arrests have been made.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “At around 16.10hrs on Saturday, 7 December police were called to reports of a car being involved in a collision with a pedestrian and a building in Eastern Avenue Ilford.
“Officers attended with London Ambulance Service paramedics, medics from the London Air Ambulance and the London Fire Brigade.
“The pedestrian, a woman whose age has not yet been confirmed, was treated at the scene but despite the best efforts of the emergency services she was pronounced dead shortly after 17:00hrs.
“Her next of kin have been informed and will be supported by specialist officers.
“The driver of the car stopped at the scene and has been spoken to. They have not been arrested.
“A number of roads remain closed as officers carry out their investigation.
