Romany is back-to-back Run Barbados 10K champ
Nicholas Romany of Trinidad and Tobago successfully defended his title in the Casuahina 10K Run of the 2024 SportsMax Run Barbados Weekend, held earlier today in the environs of Barclays Park, St Andrew.
Crossing the line in 32 minutes 16 seconds, Romany held off the challenge from Kenya Ekesa (32:18) in the race to the line.
It was the same order as last year, but just a bit faster. Romany clocked 32.55 in 2023 to Ekesa’s 32.58. The latter was the champion in 2022.
Meanwhile, three Barbadians finished in the Top 6.
Tafari Waldron was third overall in 32.24, Olympic triathlete Matthew Wright fourth in 33:32 and Joshua Hunte sixth in 35:55. Brazil’s Edwin Rogers was fifth in 34.19 seconds.
France’s Fanja Felix was first among the women in 38:55 seconds, followed by Trinidad and Tobago’s Samantha Shukla in 42.29.
Finishing third, Rebecca Lezama was the first Barbadian woman home in 47:23 minutes. (SAT)
